Elean Business Park planning application submitted

Developer Lasercharm has submitted a planning application for the detail of its proposed data centre at the Elean Business Park off the A142 roundabout at Sutton.

The company already has permission in principle for the data centre. The Council granted this in 2008, and approved a revised version in 2011. However this is the first time we have seen a detailed proposal.

Details of the application are on the Council’s planning portal. The consultation expiry date is Monday 20 June.

Occupation and use of the site is likely to reduce the anti-social driving and unauthorised encampments residents have experienced over many years. A key issue is likely to be how the applicant will address the biodiversity challenges of the site.

Planning permission for a data centre on this site was granted fourteen years ago, Patricia.

Agreed. It would change the situation regarding car meetings. Biodiversity/conservation agreements need to be in place.
Would this place mean work for locals?
    That would be good.
As you say, the planning permission had been in places for 14 years. They should be able to go ahead if it means local jobs and commitment to biodiversity. .

The application includes not only a data centre, but also a commercial building for small businesses. The applicant’s statement about parking says: “Based off this analysis, we have presumed an approximate employee count of 55 data centre employees for the development, which would be in keeping with other approved data centre developments in the UK and Ireland, as well as Corgan’s recent experience on data centres of similar scale. The 183 spaces currently provided for the data centre development allow plenty of flexibility for shift overlaps and visitor/vendor parking above the employee count. The commercial building has been provided with an additional 40 spaces, in keeping with the 1 per 100 metric proposed in Table 7.1 of the Local Plan.” I would hope that would mean a fair number of jobs for local people. I agree that the biodiversity is important!
