Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority have been designing improvements to the public transport network, with thirty new and improved bus routes funded by the Mayoral Precept. (I’m particularly excited about the prospect of a bus service from Sutton to the guided busway at Longstanton, something I’ve been lobbying for since 2016!)
These services are intended for implementation this autumn. The detail of these services is available here: Better Buses
There are online sessions tonight and tomorrow where you can have your say on the new and revised bus routes, provide feedback, and help shape the future of public transport in our community.

I need to ask please,
If you are increasing the bus transport with new and improved routes to help the people, will you be improving the roads to take all the extra traffic as you know the roads are not fit for the traffic that uses it at this time .
Hello, Brian. Improved public transport should help reduce the number of vehicles on the roads, not increase it. (Though yes, the buses will be heavier.) The county council has set aside £43M over two years for its biggest road maintenance programme in a very long time, with some of that dedicated to starting work on some of the peat soil roads that are dilapidating increasingly rapidly: work began a couple of months ago on the A1101 Bates’s Drove between Littleport and Welney, and several more are being planned this year. Unfortunately the council does not have the money available (at least £300M) for the whole 1600KM of dilapidating peat soil roads, so whichever Government is elected next month will need to work with us on this. These works also mean prolonged road closures (months not weeks).
Please can you give Witchford a bus service that caters for more than a couple of journeys a day! If you don’t have a car, or have to rely on someone who does ( which is not always possible) it makes you feel lonely and depressed not to be able to get out and see people, you feel so isolated…
I agree we need much better bus services! The Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority is exploring options including franchising, which would bring back democratic control of routes, fares and timetables. But that requires sources of reliable funding so that the Combined Authority can award contracts.
