Mepal Crematorium survey: last chance

A reminder that this weekend is residents’ last chance to complete East Cambridgeshire District Council’s survey on its controversial plan to build a crematorium at the Mepal Outdoor Centre site, before the deadline of Monday 1 February.

The survey seeks views on a number of aspects of the proposal – but there is no option for residents to indicate if they would prefer to retain and restore the Outdoor Centre. You can however make additional comments in the last question on the survey. If you don’t agree with the Mepal Outdoor Centre site being re-developed as a crematorium you could use that question to express your views.

Despite its shortcomings the Public Consultation Survey is the only opportunity local residents currently have to express their views. Do take a few minutes to submit your thoughts.

Definitely retain and restore Mepal outdoor centre for everyone to use, we spent many hours as a family when it was open..

  2. Simon Franklin says:

I do not support the re-development of this site . A crematorium is not needed at all in this area . And I feel this is being pushed though.
Yes I know we can’t hold public meetings at the moment due to Covid-19. But just having a on line survey that is clearly very one sided is totally wrong.
There should and needs to be away for this to be put on hold until a better way for the public can have they say on this. The District Council should be ashamed of themselves for the way they have gone about this.

  3. Pamela white says:

Why do we need a one here as the one at March is not being used to full capacity, what they should do is turn it into a nature reserve of sorts with things for families to do, and walking areas, not a crematorium, I live in Mepal and strongly object to this as the ashes will blow this way if the winds are blowing in our direction

  4. Jeff Cox says:

ECDC are going to go ahead with this no matter what the opinions of the locals are. It is another classic example of its what we want that matters not what you want. Basically like national government their view is your are just a bunch of plebs who opinions and concerns are not worth our consideration.

  5. Lin Bullamore says:

There is already a crematorium 15 minutes from this site so another one is not needed, but we do need outdoor leisure facilities for people to enjoy and benefit their mental and physical health. This site could offer a wonderful place for people to exercise and enjoy nature.

  6. Ann Goodin says:

I’m not in favour. If other local crematoriums have no capacity issues, why is this needed? More development will harm wildlife.

I would also expect many residents have concerns about the impact of building works have to their homes and potential flooding (issues Jan 2021) highlighted on Sutton notice board.

How will three councils be managed during the process?

Why has the issue of not advising locals democratically not been addressed?

Why has our MP Steve Barclay not addressing the concerns of his area?

  7. Lucia HAYNES says:

No to the crematorium! Thank you
